Whigs Drummer, Filling in for EODM, Escapes Paris Terror Attack

Julian Dorio, drummer for Athens band The Whigs (he’s on the far left in this photo of the group), was among the fortunate survivors after Islamic terrorists struck a Paris music hall on Friday, November 13th.

Dorio, 39, was playing a sold out show with the California band Eagles of Death Metal at Paris venue The Bataclan, filling in for founding member Josh Homme, who sat out this tour. The group, the night’s headlining act, had played four or five songs when three gunmen stormed the theater and began indiscriminately shooting attendees and taking many hostages, eventually killing a reported 87 people and wounding numerous others. All of the members of Eagles of Death Metal, including Atlanta native Dorio (who currently lives in East Nashville), escaped the venue through a back door when the attack occurred.

The band cancelled the remainder of the European tour the next day and returned to the US. Meanwhile, The Whigs are scheduled to play Aisle 5 in Atlanta on December 18th and 19th.
