Watch Out For Snakes Pays Homage to ‘80s Movies, Video Games

Atlanta-based electronic music artist Watch Out For Snakes, aka Matt Baum, describes his music as “chipwave.” His eccentric compositions blend Nintendo and Atari chip samples with a synthwave aesthetic, sort of a fun, high-energy homage to old video games and ‘80s movies. Baum’s original material not only draws influence from Depeche Mode, SURVIVE and Sparks, but also soundtracks from games like Ninja Gaiden and Mike Tyson’s Punchout!

After releasing it digitally in early May, Watch Out For Snakes will celebrate the physical release of his debut album Upgrade on Thursday, June 28th with a show at Atlanta’s 529 club. The show lineup will also include local synthwave staples Gregorio Franco and Acid Gambit.
