Veteran Atlanta Rocker Ray Dafrico Releases Debut Solo Album

Ray Dafrico, veteran of numerous scruffy Atlanta-based rock ‘n’ roll bands beginning with the notorious Nightporters in the 1980s, has released his first CD under his own name: Solo Au Go Go.

The seven-song effort was recorded at the storied FAME facility in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, as well as in Atlanta at Itchy Brain Studios. While generally sticking to guitars and vocals with previous groups, here Dafrico plays all of the instruments aside from able assistance from the legendary Spooner Oldham on keyboards and Atlanta’s Johnny Hibbert on sax.

Listeners shouldn’t expect much deviance from the tried ‘n’ true mix of shambolic punk, mod and ‘60s/’70s garage, soul and power-pop that Dafrico has habitually pumped into such Atlanta acts as Kathleen Turner Overdrive, Shades of Shame, Soulfinger, Kickstand, The Shanghai Gesture and the more recent Ray City Rollers.
