Uncle Green Drummer Peter McDade Releases First Novel

Peter McDade, drummer for Atlanta bands Paul Melancon & the New Insecurities and ‘80s/’90s heart-on-sleeve power-poppers Uncle Green, has just had his first novel published.

The Weight of Sound (Wampus Multimedia) tells the tale of an aspiring musician named Spider Webb who moves to Athens, Georgia after finding inspiration in that town’s thriving music scene, and forms a band called Monkeyhole that endures a typical slate of career and personal ups and downs.

The book also comes with a companion soundtrack featuring songs written by McDade and various collaborators (including Uncle Green’s Matt Brown and Jeff Jensen and Charles Walston of onetime Atlanta roots-rockers The Vidalias) that help tell Spider’s story. The tracks are sung by Melancon (as Spider) and others.
