Third Annual AlanFest Set for Early April in Athens

The life of University of Georgia landscape architecture graduate David Alan Lewis was cut short tragically in 2011 when he accidentally slipped down a gorge during a hike in South Carolina. A part-time musician and full-time musical enthusiast, Lewis had numerous friends in Athens who, together with his family, decided to honor his life by establishing the David Alan Lewis scholarship, a $25,000 scholarship awarded each year to a fifth-year senior in UGA’s landscape architecture school.

In order to help fund the scholarship, they also started the annual AlanFest music festival in 2013. This year’s AlanFest is a two-day affair, April 3rd and 4th, with performances occurring at the Georgia Theatre, Terrapin Brewery and the new Live Wire Athens. Acts include Dangermuffin, Moon Hooch, Isaac Bramblett Band, The Fritz, Sun Dried Vibes and others. Weekend passes are available through the official AlanFest website, astoryworthhearing.org, with all proceeds benefitting the memorial scholarship.
