Atlanta concert venue the Roxy Theatre, the Buckhead location of which closed in 2008, will be reborn as a 53,000 square-foot entertainment venue in Cobb County’s SunTrust Park when the Atlanta Braves relocate there in early 2017.
The Braves are partnering with concert promoter Live Nation on the new venue, which will have a standing-room capacity of 4,000 and will feature an estimated 40 music and comedy shows a year, in addition to various private and special events, mostly on non-game days. Live Nation will operate and book the venue; the company also operates the Tabernacle in downtown Atlanta and Aaron’s Amphitheatre at Lakewood, and books and promotes numerous shows at other Atlanta venues.
“We want to bring fans and visitors to this new community 365 days a year for a variety of events, and partnering with the nation’s preeminent live entertainment company in Live Nation guarantees excitement year round,” said Mike Plant, Braves executive vice president of business operations. “Peter Conlon and Live Nation have an incredible track record here in Atlanta managing top acts and putting on first-class events.”
The former home of the Roxy, at the intersection of Roswell and Peachtree Roads in Buckhead, reopened under new ownership as the Buckhead Theatre in 2010, and continues to host numerous concerts and events.
