The Magpie Salute – featuring former members of The Black Crowes – will release their debut album on August 10th. And the title – High Water I – hints that it may connect in some way with a subsequent album or albums. Indeed, they’ve already titled their second one High Water II, saying that it’ll follow next year.
Produced by guitarist/band leader Rich Robinson in Nashville, the 12-song High Water I presents a mix of swaggering rock ‘n’ roll, psychedelic blues, pop melodies and storytelling lyrics that first began taking shape when Robinson initially assembled the band for a gig in Woodstock, New York in 2016. Fellow ex-Crowes Marc Ford and Sven Pipien are also in the lineup; keyboardist and onetime Crowe Eddie Harsch was a founding member as well, but died shortly after their formation.
The Magpie Salute will be touring all summer, with a Georgia show at the Buckhead Theatre scheduled for September 21st.
