“Spring Breakdown” Ends Luke Bryan’s Annual Tradition

The Panama City Beach concerts and EP releases come to a close

Down in Southwest Georgia, the annual trek to Panama City Beach is a rite of passage for high school seniors and college students. Leesburg native Luke Bryan didn’t stop the tradition when he became a country superstar; instead, he went back each spring, performed free concerts and later released top-selling spring break EPs. Last year, his two-day free concert series at Spinnaker’s Beach Club drew over 200,000 fans, but in 2015, Bryan announced this year would be his last.

“I have been jokingly saying that it has been pretty nice to continue spring break well into my 30s,” he told Taste of Country.” I feel like I’ve done a lot better than my other buddies, because they certainly haven’t been going to spring break and partying with a bunch of college kids. It’s been amazing to go down there and do the spring break shows ever year, and get inspiration for new songs and new tours.” Bryan performed his final two concerts at Spinnaker’s on March 11 & 12 and released Spring Break…Checkin’ Out, an 11-song project with five new tracks and all six songs from last year’s EP.

Bryan and Blake Shelton are set to once again host the 2015 ACM Awards live from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on April 19. The show starts at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
