SPIN Debuts Sara Rachele’s Dreamy Version of Cracker’s “Low”

SPIN magazine has premiered the new single from Atlanta singer/songwriter Sara Rachele, which is a woozy cover of Cracker’s “Low.” Rachele and her band were inspired to tackle the ‘90s alt-rock hit after recently seeing Cracker in concert. Cracker, of course, is led by current Athens resident David Lowery, who penned “Low” with band members Johnny Hickman and Davey Faragher.

Writing of the track, SPIN’s Andrew Unterberger suggests that “Rachele’s rendition sounds like a beautifully hazy memory of the original, or an alternate history in which the most famous version of ‘Low’ was performed by Mazzy Star.” Tellingly, the B-side of Sara’s previous single was a cover of Mazzy Star’s signature song, “Fade Into You.”

A vinyl 7-inch single of “Low” will be out on April 21st. In the meantime, here’s SPIN’s debut of the track: http://www.spin.com/2015/04/sara-rachele-cracker-low-cover/.
