Southern Rock Book Author Coming to Georgia for Readings, Signings

Many of Georgia’s groups from the heyday of Southern Rock – including the Atlanta Rhythm Section, the Allman Brothers Band and Grinderswitch – are profiled in writer Scott Bomar’s recently released book Southbound: An Illustrated History of Southern Rock, a 300-page tome published by Backbeat Books. In addition to the artists of the genre, Macon’s pivotal Capricorn Records label and associated studio are spotlighted, as is Jimmy Carter’s embrace of Southern Rock bands and the impact it had on his 1976 presidential run.

Author Bomar – a Nashville native now based in Los Angeles – will be reading from Southbound, engaging in question & answer sessions and signing copies of the book at the Allman Brothers’ old “Big House” in Macon (now a museum dedicated to the band) on Saturday, Oct. 18th at 1 p.m. and at Atlanta’s A Cappella Books on Sunday, Oct. 19th at 6 p.m.
