For the third year in a row, Southern Grown commemorates the distinctive culture of all things Southern by giving guests the chance to taste, sip, learn about and experience the unique cuisine and traditions of this region of America. Southern Grown welcomes Steep Canyon Rangers to its Garden & Gun Kickoff Dinner and a Show on Fri., Sept. 1 and a concert by Drive-By Truckers on Sat., Sept. 2.
Saturday’s daytime events include the Southern Grown Marketplace presented by Southeastern Wildlife Exposition. Celebrate wildlife and nature through fine art, education, sport and of course, food & drink. Take a stroll and peruse dozens of unique Southern artisans and purveyors booths. Don’t miss the demos! From the food world comes well-renowned Chef Linton Hopkins who will captivate the culinary-inclined folks. Spirits abound with Mixology demos from award-winning bartenders. And from the sporting world comes an exciting falconry experience, an exhibition by Broadfield Bird Dog Trainer Wes Schlosser, and tips and tricks from Broadfield Garden Manager Sean Rakoczy.
From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., it’s an Oceanside “Hopkins’ Heritage Dinner” with a meal designed by traditions passed down from generation to generation and cooked by father and son, Linton and Linton. Then from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m., it’s music by Drive-By Truckers with Chef Chris Dickerson of Corner Taco in Jacksonville, Fla. catering the VIP section and St. Simons Island favorites Southern Soul taking over the Cook House. VIP Tickets are $125 and general admission tickets are $65.
