After decades drumming on tour and in the studio for world-renowned acts such as Earth, Wind & Fire, the Crusaders, Al Jarreau, Steely Dan and Bette Midler, Atlanta’s Sonny Emory has put together his own new band, Sonny Emory’s Cachet. Blending his passion for R&B, funk, rock, pop, jazz and gospel, the group’s debut album Love is the Greatest has just been released on GRP/Universal.
Emory’s own sons Nick and Nigel are members of Cachet, contributing heavily to the writing, mixing and performances. Joining them are bassist Sam Sims, guitarist Kevin Walker and vocalist Stephanie Peyton, with Sonny handling all the drums, percussion and keyboards.
In conjunction with the release of Love is the Greatest, Sonny will sit in with NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers house band, The 8G Band, from October 23rd through 26th. Emory joins the ranks of high profile drummers such as Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Matt Cameron (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden), Venzella Joy (Beyonce) and Atlanta’s own Brann Dailor (Mastodon) who have also guested in that position on the show.
