Graveface Records & Curiosities is marking its third anniversary as Savannah’s most eclectic record store with a series of in-store shows this month, starting Wednesday, Sept. 10th at 7 p.m. with a shindig headlined by Whirr, a San Francisco based psychedelic/shoegaze band signed to the store’s in-house record label, also called Graveface Records (minus the curiosities, although many of its signings are, indeed, quite curious.)
Thirty-three-year-old musician Ryan Graveface opened the retail store after moving to Savannah from Chicago, and briefly operated a second location. His label has been running for nine years and has released well over a hundred LPs, CDs, cassettes and 7-inch singles, including those by The Casket Girls, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Marshmallow Ghosts and Dreamend, all of which feature Ryan in some capacity.
Savannah punk band Crazy Bag Lady and Indiana group Cloakroom round out the Sept. 10th lineup, which costs $10 advance or $12 at the door. Other Graveface third anniversary shows are set for Sept. 18th (Empire! Empire!, Free Throw) and Sept. 25th (Des Ark, Heartscape Landbreak, Pauses) at the store located 5 W. 40th Street. All shows are all ages.
