R.E.M. Releasing DVD Set Culled From MTV Networks Archives

R.E.M. have compiled a six-disc DVD retrospective of their appearances on MTV and its sister Viacom networks throughout their career, including live concerts, TV guest appearances and highlights from award shows, as well as a new documentary about the band’s mutual history with the network.

Scheduled for release Nov. 24th, REMTV will include vintage footage from early in the band’s existence (including their five-song appearance on The Cutting Edge in 1984), their complete MTV Unplugged and VH1 Storytellers concerts (including unaired outtakes), TV appearances from around the world and a pair of full concerts from 2001 (Cologne, Germany) and 2008 (Athens, Greece), among other artifacts.

“This is the first DVD project to unite material from all across Viacom’s networks,” said Bill Flanagan, Executive Vice President of the Viacom Music Group. “I don’t think anyone realized just how much terrific R.E.M. footage we were sitting on. To gather the best of it in one collection is pretty overwhelming. R.E.M. started great, stayed great and ended great – here’s the evidence.”
