Pixels Movie Prompts New Version of Buckner & Garcia Novelty Hit

With the release of the new video gam-inspired movie Pixels, it seems that many people are coming down with a fresh case of Pac-Man Fever. And naturally, that means Buckner & Garcia’s 1981 novelty hit has been re-released, this time in a new version called “Pac-Man Fever (Eat ‘Em Up) 2015,” featuring Jace Hall.

“’Pac-Man Fever’ is either mentioned or played somewhere in the world every day, with recent sightings on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Today Show and at the end of the hilarious ‘Tweet Tweet’ skit on Jimmy Kimmel Live with Drake, and many more places,” asserts Jerry Buckner, an Atlanta resident and half of the oddball duo that also featured Gary Garcia (who died in 2011).

Citing the tune’s nostalgic staying power, Buckner says “we hope to continue that tradition with this latest version of the song.” The original version was a top ten hit, and a subsequent album (also titled Pac-Man Fever), despite being completed in a mere two weeks to capitalize on the phenomenon, sold over 2.5 million copies.
