Atlanta musician Peter Venezia, better known to friends and fans as Peter V, passed away at his home the evening of July 22nd, one day after his 63rd birthday.
Venezia played guitar for The Basics and The Roys, two popular Atlanta bands of the early 1980s new wave era. In the years since he continued to make music with friends – such as Tommy Thompson and the Mighty Fine Slabs – and on his own, and occasionally dabbled in production for other local bands.
In recent months, Venezia had been suffering from ascites and pitting edema, and had not been feeling well in the days before his death.
A public gathering of Venezia’s friends and family has been scheduled for Sunday, August 16th from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Atlanta Room at Smith’s Olde Bar on Piedmont Road in midtown Atlanta.
