Panski Merges Electronic and Country Music with New EP

Fusing electronic dance music and country music in a mixture he called “Southern House,” Panski certainly gives listeners a new twist on seemingly incongruent genres. But then, a few years ago the same could be said for country and rap music, and yet some artists have successfully managed to cross-pollenate those.

The Atlanta-based DJ, producer and multi-instrumentalist has just released an EP appropriately titled A Road Less Traveled. Featuring little known vocalists, the four tracks are all reinventions of popular country and singer-songwriter fare: Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again,” John Denver’s “Take Me Home Country Roads,” Sheryl Crow’s “Soak Up the Sun” and Pat Green’s “Wave on Wave.” Despite the premise, the results are not nearly as jarringly radical as you might imagine.
