Otis Redding’s Complete Whisky Performances Coming in Box Set

Otis Redding fans: rejoice! Otis Redding – Live at the Whisky A Go Go: The Complete Recordings is scheduled for an October 21st release via the recently reactivated Stax Records.

The six-CD collection presents Redding’s 1966 string of shows at the famed Sunset Strip venue in chronological order – seven sets in total, recorded April 8th, 9th and 10th of that year. The box set marks the first time many of these recordings have been released commercially, and will include all of Redding’s between-song banter in addition to the electrifying, passionate nine-piece-band performances of hits like “Respect,” “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long,” “Mr. Pitiful” and the Rolling Stone’s “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.” Twenty-four years old at the time, Otis Redding was the first major soul act to perform on the Whisky’s stage.

Rounding out this package is a poster, plus new liner notes from Los Angeles-based journalist Lynell George and the box set’s co-producer Bill Bentley.
