After a well-received first year, the Oakhurst Porchfest is returning to Decatur’s Oakhurst neighborhood on Saturday, October 8th.
The basic grassroots concept is that residents of the neighborhood offer up their front porches or yards as makeshift stages for various diverse musical acts to perform on during the afternoon, while neighbors and attendees stroll from house to house, enjoying the entertainment and socializing.
With more than 130 performances in four hours, last year’s event was a big success, and this year’s followup looks to be every bit as delightful, while expanding in key areas. Most significantly, it’ll run for two more hours – from noon until 6 p.m – followed by a closing gathering and hoedown in the neighborhood’s Harmony Park.
The lineup’s still being arranged, so if you’re an interested solo musician or have a group that would be appropriate (all genres are welcome, but performances must be acoustic or at a considerate volume for the circumstances), or live in the neighborhood and would like to offer your porch or other services, or you’re just curious about attending, get the skinny over at oakhurstporchfest.org.
