Macon has a new music radio station with a decidedly hometown slant to its programming. Signing on for the first time on Friday, July 8th, the independently owned WNEX FM, 100.9 The Creek intends to offer Americana-themed programming that emphasizes the music of the city, state and Southeastern region. The Creek is named for the mound-builders that first settled the Macon region.
Owners Brad Evans, Rob Evans (no relation) and Wes Griffin are no newcomers to the Macon music scene. All three are past board members of the annual Bragg Jam festival; Brad is co-owner of Macon’s alternative bi-weekly newspaper The 11th Hour, which covers local music, culture and politics; Brad and Wes were the original publishers of Georgia Music Magazine; Wes co-owns Moonhanger Group which owns the restaurants The Rookery, Dovetail, El Camino and the H&H and the event space Armory Ballroom, as well as manages the Cox Capitol Theatre; and Rob founded Star Motel recording studio and record label. Both The 11th Hour newspaper and Star Motel will now be operated by Creek Media.
Broadcasting from 533 Cherry Street in downtown Macon, the new station will feature an eclectic mix of music, live performers in the studio and special recurring shows hosted by an assortment of Macon music luminaries including Jessica Walden and Kirk West. Stream it live at http://thecreekfm.com/.
