New Cracker Double Album Features Athens Talent

Though formed in California, Cracker could be considered at least somewhat a Georgia group at this point, since singer and songwriter David Lowery has been living for several years in Athens, having married the band’s manager and 40 Watt Club booking agent Velena Vego in 2010. So while Cracker’s forthcoming album, Berkeley to Bakersfield, is a salute to two of the band’s biggest California-style musical influences – politically charged, punk-edged rock (Berkeley) and twangy country & western (Bakersfield) – many of Lowery’s newfound friends in Athens’ music scene can be heard on the album, including pedal steel guitarist Matt Stoessel, vocalist/keyboardist Thayer Sarrano, bassist Bryan Howard, drummer Jeremy Wheatley and saxophonist Marc Gilley.

In advance of the Dec. 9th release of Berkeley to Bakersfield on 429 Records, Cracker will play two shows at the EARL in Atlanta: a nighttime show on Saturday, Nov. 29th, and an afternoon matinee on Sunday, Nov. 30th.
