Motown Records has released Back to the Basics, the new mixtape from Rich Homie Quan. The collection also includes the Back to the Basics movie, wherein Quan’s narration links together the official videos for “Da Streetz,” “Heart Cold” and four other tracks, and is his first project since signing to Motown earlier this year.
The Atlanta rapper says he chose the mixtape’s title as a nod to the material that helped him rise to popularity. “I just want to get back to my old self, dropping the music I know I’m capable of dropping for my fans. I want to get back to where everyone can feel where I’m coming from.”
“Replay,” the high energy first single from Back to the Basics, can also be heard in a series of short video spots that Quan shot for Adidas and athletic retailer The Finish Line.
Quan revealed to XXL magazine that his first official album for Motown is planned for a July release, and its title will be Rich as in Spirit.
