A pair of notable Atlanta rap mixtapes, previously only released digitally, are being issued on vinyl for the first time, in very limited numbers, by London-based vinyl-only label Omerta Inc.
Gucci Mane has issued countless mixtapes over the last ten years, but the material on Mama’s Basement is among the earliest known recordings from Wop. Gucci teamed with frequent collaborator, Atlanta producer Zaytoven, to record the tracks (yes, in his mother’s basement). The 12 cuts were released digitally last year but this special vinyl edition is limited to 500 hand-numbered copies on black-and-white spatter design vinyl.
Meanwhile, last August Peewee Longway (pictured) joined forces with hot Atlanta producer Cassius Jay to record and digitally release a joint 11-track mixtape called Longway Sinatra, featuring guest spots from Atlantans T.K. Kravitz and Offset (Migos), plus California’s E-40. The special green-and-black splatter vinyl edition is limited to 300 copies.
Both albums are scheduled to be released on April 28th. For more information and to directly pre-order, go to omertainc.net.
