In addition to scads of solo shows and recordings, Atlanta-based singer-songwriter Michelle Malone has employed numerous backing band configurations and collaborators over the course of her thirtysomething-year career. Certainly one of the most loved and durable was the Drag the River, who backed her and got co-billing on her sole major label album, Relentless, released by Arista Records in 1990.
Now Drag the River are reuniting (well, most of them, anyway) with Malone for a reunion show set for Saturday, April 15th at the relatively new Atlanta venue The Vista Room, attached to Napoleon’s Grill on LaVista Road in Decatur. Billy Pitts (drums), Phil Skipper (bass) and Joey Huffman (keyboards) will be joined by guest guitarist Doug Kees (original axe man Jonny Daly is sitting this one out) to rock out on Malone’s early material from Relentless and her previous independent album New Experience (1988).
The Vista Room isn’t an especially large venue, so if you want to guarantee a spot in the crowd, be aware that advance tickets are on sale now at https://www.freshtix.com/events/michelle-malone-and-drag-the-river-reunion–the-vista
