Brann Dailor of Mastodon, whose critically acclaimed album Emperor of Sand is out now, will officially debut his other project Arcadea when the group releases its self-titled debut album on June 16th via Relapse Records.
Arcadea was born when drummer/vocalist Dailor teamed up with guitarist/keyboardist Core Adams (of Atlanta-based experimental psych-mental band Zruda) to create a synth-laden, progressive, heavy psychedelic band. Adding guitarist Raheen Amiani (Atlanta doom metalers Withered), the trio recorded its 10-song synth odyssey at Orange Peel Studios in Atlanta.
As can be gathered from this image from the upcoming album’s cover art, the band’s music is described as “hailing from the fringes of the cosmos,” inspired by futuristic visions of the universe populated by new worlds and strange lifeforms. No live performances have been announced, and Mastodon is going to be working an extremely pedal-to-the-metal schedule through mid-summer at least (they’re barreling across the US until May 20th, then head to Europe for summer festival dates). But keep your fingers crossed.
