On Friday, February 26th, Georgia State University’s Rialto Center for the Arts continues an annual tradition begun in 1991 when it stages the 2016 Johnny Mercer Celebration.
This year, Atlanta-based jazz trumpeter and vocalist Joe Gransden, a Georgia State alumnus, will headline the tribute; it will be his third appearance at the Mercer Celebration. Also performing will be native Atlantan Kathleen Bertrand, a jazz vocalist widely acknowledged for her three octave range, and beloved singer and musical theater actress Marilyn Maye. All three will be accompanied by the GSU Jazz Band to perform a selection of Mercer’s Academy Award-nominated hits.
Tickets, starting at $34, are available at the Rialto Center’s box office, by calling 404-413-9849, or through rialto.gsu.edu.
