Jennifer Nettles Nabs Role in Dolly Parton Childhood Biopic

Douglas, Georgia native Jennifer Nettles, frontwoman for Sugarland as well as newly established solo star, is now adding “actress” to her resume. She’s been chosen to portray Dolly Parton’s mother in the period biopic Coat of Many Colors, currently filming in Covington, Georgia.

Not an account of Parton’s rise to country and pop music stardom, the TV movie for NBC instead takes place in 1955 when Parton was nine, and despite the Georgia filming location is set in the Great Smokey Mountains in rural Tennessee. Eight-year-old Alyvia Lind will play young Dolly, while Ricky Schroder (yep, from Silver Spoons), will play her father, Lee Parton. The network currently has it scheduled to air on Dec. 10th.

Meanwhile, Nettles joins onetime Georgia resident Kenny Rogers on his forthcoming holiday album, Once Again It’s Christmas, due in stores Sept. 25th. Nettles sings on the medley “Here It Is Christmas”/ “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.”
