Guitarist and Songwriter AJ Ghent Releases Neo Blues Project EP

Atlanta’s AJ Ghent is one of the region’s most talented guitarists, slide or otherwise, and his skills are on full display on his new six-song EP, The Neo Blues Project.

As the title implies, Ghent – one of many musicians Col. Bruce Hampton took under his wing, inviting him to play in his group Pharaoh’s Kitchen – uses the blues style as a starting point but also infuses it with funk, soul, rock and other genres. The West Palm Beach native’s grandfather Henry Nelson is one of the early pioneers of the “Sacred Steel” rhythmic guitar style, which certainly figures into Ghent’s approach.

The release party for The Neo Blues Project takes place March 17th at Eddie’s Attic in Decatur.
