Rounder Records will release a live Gregg Allman DVD and CD this August, recorded at a January 2014 concert at the historic Grand Opera House in Macon, the middle Georgia town the Allman Brothers Band called home during their classic years.
Due on retailers’ shelves August 7th, Gregg Allman Live: Back to Macon, GA offers a 16-song mix of Allman Brothers staples, selections from his solo albums and a handful of covers, with Allman backed by an eight-piece band including a three-man brass section, plus Gregg’s son Devon Allman, a touring/recording musician in his own right, sitting in for a portion of the performance. Hittin’ the Note editor John Lynskey penned the liner notes, and the DVD includes two bonus songs and interview segments.
‘Macon is a wonderful town with wonderful people, and I still have some dear, dear friends there,” Gregg allows. “Macon holds a special place in my heart; it comes with a lot of different memories, but the good ones are all that matter to me now. I’m so proud of this album; boy, we were smokin’ that night.”
