Glenn Phillips’ reputation as an extraordinary, unique and passionate electric guitarist was just beginning to gain attention outside of Atlanta circles in 1977 when he and his band at the time – bass guitarist Bill Rea, drummer Doug Landsberg and keyboardist/guitaristDave Wilson – embarked on a 15-date tour of England. Now, 39 years later, a live album recorded during the trek at London’s storied Rainbow Theatre is being released to the public.
Glenn Phillips – Live at the Rainbow finds the onetime Hampton Grease Band member in top form, bringing a fiery raw energy to material from his first two albums, Lost at Sea (1975) and Swim in the Wind (1977).
Phillips will celebrate the release of At the Rainbow with a special show on Friday, Nov. 4th at Duluth’s Red Clay Music Foundry. The live album will be played in its entirety, while keyboardist Dana Howard Nelson will join the band to perform Phillips’ 1980 studio album Dark Lights in its entirety.
