‘Girl Crush’ Is Billboard’s #1 Hot Country Single

Little Big Town's hit is co-written by Washington, Ga.'s Hillary Lindsey

The second single from Little Big Town’s sixth album, Painkiller, has finally peaked at the top of the charts six months after its release. Karen Fairchild’s lead vocal smolders and burns on “Girl Crush,” co-written by Washington, Ga. native Hillary Lindsay along with Liz Rose and Lori McKenna. Though several country stations pulled the song claiming it promotes same-sex relationships, the lyrics actually convey the story of one woman’s jealous obsession with another woman who has taken her man. Other artists have a girl crush on the tune – Kelly Clarkson, Miranda Lambert and Gwen Stefani covered it at concerts and Season Eight contestant on The Voice Meghan Linsey performed it. Her version peaked at #22 on the Hot Country Songs chart.
