Macon-based music photographer Kirk West has cut the ribbon on his brand new gallery. Located at 447 Third Street in downtown Macon, Gallery West displays a generous overview of his personally selected favorite shots, including many of the Allman Brothers Band, for whom he worked as tour manager beginning in 1989. He also directed the documentary Please Come Home about the early years of the group.
With a photography career lasting over 40 years, West has amassed a staggeringly impressive archive, including onstage and offstage shots of legends including Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, Tom Waits, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Bob Marley, The Police, Iggy Pop, even The Plasmatics.
A book of West’s photos of and experiences with the Allman Brothers Band is being assembled for a planned release in June.
