Peter Buck appears on three songs on the forthcoming album from The Minus 5, while his friend and onetime R.E.M. bandmate Mike Mills also plays bass on one of those songs.
Originally available only as part of a limited edition, five-LP Record Store Day release, the five original songs on Of Monkees and Men’s first side are clever and heartfelt tributes to the Prefab Four on the heels of their 50th anniversary (and comeback hit album, Good Times), while the album’s B-side is a collection of original songs honoring other friends, folks, groups and guitars who’ve made a significant impact on singer, songwriter and the band one constant, Scott McCaughey.
Mills and (especially) Buck have been frequent compatriots alongside McCaughey in the loose, fluid ensemble, as well as related band The Baseball Project. Having first developed a college-rock following with his group The Young Fresh Fellows, McCaughey of course became a consistent auxiliary musician for R.E.M. from the mid ‘90s onward.
Yep Roc Records releases Of Monkees and Men on August 19th.
