Former professional golfer Colt Ford will be performing at a revamped Mayors’ Masters Reception in Augusta this year, naturally coinciding with the annual Masters golf tournament the first week of April.
The event was founded in 1999 to honor legendary tournament players. This year, Augusta Mayor Hardie Davis expanded the parameters to involve all former Augusta mayors in the event, book a nationally-known musical headliner (Ford), and revise the rules so that a non-golfer could be honored. That distinction goes to Augusta native Carl Jackson, the 67-year-old caddie for Ben Crenshaw who first caddied in the Masters in 1961 as a 14-year-old.
In addition to Athens native Ford (a pro golfer for seven years under his real name, Jason Brown), Governor Nathan Deal’s daughter, Katie Deal, will also perform, along with Joshua Scott Jones. The April 6th reception begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Augusta Common downtown. Tickets are $10.
