Callanwolde Fine Arts Center’s third annual Salute to America and the Arts is coming to the Atlanta facility on Friday, September 8th, with a VIP preview dinner occurring the previous evening. A celebration of visual, literary, culinary and performing arts, the event raises scholarship funds for US veterans and students in need.
This year’s guest of honor is Bernie Taupin, the award-winning lyricist whose collaborations with Elton John have resulted in some of the most beloved and iconic pop songs of the past half-century. Taupin is also a visual artist whose exhibition, Ragged Glory: Art Americana, will be opening at Callanwolde as part of the Salute to America and the Arts. Attendees to Thursday’s VIP event (limited to 40 guests) will be privy to a special preview of the exhibit, and enjoy an intimate dinner with Taupin with live music from Shawn Mullins.
Friday’s official opening will be marked by musical entertainment from John Driskell Hopkins of the Zac Brown Band, a question & answer session with Taupin, a performance by the Callanwolde School of Dance and Choir, plus a cocktail party, dinner and drinks by local chef H. Emre Asik. Radio personality Steve Craig (97.1 The River) will host. For tickets and more information, go to callanwolde.org/salute/.
