Atlanta-based rap duo EarthGang are on a roll, following up last month’s Rags EP with a brand new one. The five songs on Robots find EarthGang’s Johnny Venus and Doctur Dot expanding the boundary-pushing breed of Southern hip-hop they introduced to the world with albums like 2013’s Shallow Graves for Toys and 2015’s Strays with Rabies.
“Robots is just the next step of an overall creative experiment we’re trying,” says Doctur Dot. “If Rags was you closing your eyes to meditate, then Robots is that deep breath you take.”
EarthGang and fellow Atlanta rapper J.I.D just wrapped up opening the European leg of J. Cole’s Your Eyez Only World Tour in October. (Both Atlanta acts are signed to Cole’s Dreamville Records.) In November, EarthGang and J.I.D team up for a co-headlining US tour that will culminate with a show at Atlanta venue Vinyl on Nov. 21st.
