Drive-By Truckers Drop “English Oceans”

DBT EnglishOceansEnglish Oceans, the album released by Athens-based Drive-By Truckers on March 3, continues to earn high marks. Rolling Stone’s  Joe Gross nods to the six tunes written by guitarist Mike Cooley, who usually only contributes three or four songs per album, and notes that frontman Patterson Hood “cranks out his usual smart set of rockers as consistent as Waffle House hash browns.” Paste Magazine’s Geoffrey Himes penned an expansive piece chronicling the band’s 18-year journey, including non-stop touring, personnel changes, solo albums, personal loss and through it all, masterful Southern storytelling. In his review for NPR, renowned music critic Robert Christgau said, “The Drive-By Truckers could retire tomorrow pretty sure that the South will never spawn a better songwriting band.”

The Truckers appeared on Conan March 6 – watch the band’s live performance of “Shi*t Shots Count” here.
