Marking 20 years together, Drive-By Truckers have announced a title and release date for their next album. American Band will hit retail outlets on September 30th via ATO Records. The new track “Surrender Under Protest” has been given a premiere by NPR and can be heard here:
Recorded late last year at Nashville’s historic Sound Emporium with longtime producer/engineer David Barbe behind the board, American Band is a more directly political album than the band’s perhaps been known for, with its songs addressing the recent events and the current political arena in the United States. It’s the third album by the current lineup of the group – guitarists, singers and songwriters Mike Cooley and Patterson Hood, bassist Mike Patton, keyboardist Jay Gonzalez and drummer Brad Morgan – the longest-lasting iteration in the band’s history.
The Truckers are rarely off the road, and naturally the release of American Band will be accompanied by extensive touring. So far, no Georgia dates have been announced, but Hood will be playing a solo show at Decatur’s Eddie’s Attic on August 12th.
