Georgia native Daniel Cowan, a musician and songwriter who records under the appropriate name Dan Random, will tale another left turn with the release of his debut science fiction novel, Somewhere Called Now, and its accompanying original music soundtrack.
Somewhere Called Now is the story of four college students from Savannah (Cowan’s onetime stomping grounds) who place an ad online falsely claiming they’re an accomplished espionage group, in a ruse to raise money to pay for tuition. Through a bizarre chain of events, they stumble onto a time machine and accidentally get transported to the past, encountering everything from dinosaurs to Roman soldiers.
“I wrote the book to combine my favorite passions – science fiction and music,” Cowan says. “To have music accompanying the story allows the reader to get a new perspective that paints layers of color around the story that you could not get from word alone. I’ve found that music enhances a story and contributes to the reader’s imagination, as well as triggers memories that give the story more life and feeling.”
To celebrate the release of the book and CD, Cowan will perform music and read from the novel during a release show at Avondale Towne Cinema in Avondale Estates on Friday, April 21st. Doors are at 7 p.m., and the show is at 8 p.m. The event is free but restricted to those 21 years and older.
