In commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the launch of Atlanta-based hip-hop label So So Def, Sony Music’s hip-hop/R&B reissue division Certified Classics will release the digital compilation album So So Def 25 this summer. A 12” vinyl collector’s edition of So So Def 25 will also be available. The collection included essential hits, remixes and deep cuts from the label’s back catalog, which included iconic acts such as Kris Kross, Xscape, Da Brat, Bow Wow and Jagged Edge.
The celebration of So So Def, founded by visionary producer/musician/songwriter/entrepreneur Jermaine Dupri (pictured), will continue throughout 2018 with Sony set to press vinyl reissues of selected albums from the label’s history, along with further digital content. Plans for an all-star So So Def tour are also currently in the works.
This June, Dupri will become only the second hip-hop artist ever to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Thus far 2018 also sees Dupri being honored with the Trumpet Awards Music Innovation Award, the Global Spin Awards “Breaking Barriers” Award, and the Legendary Awards “Trailblazer” Award.
