On May 1, 2017, surrounded by a stage full of musicians and more than 4,000 fans gathered at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre to celebrate his 70th birthday, Col. Bruce Hampton collapsed during the encore performance of “Turn On Your Lovelight” and was pronounced dead shortly afterward at nearby Crawford Long Hospital. The outpouring of love, remembrances and incredible stories from individuals whose lives he so indelibly impacted has been nothing short of otherworldly, just like Hampton himself. On behalf of Georgia Music, we love you, Col. Bruce, and your one-of-a-kind spirit will guide us always.
