Wondering what to get the country music devotee in your life this Christmas? Look no further than the 10-DVD collection CMA Awards Live: Greatest Moments 1968-2015 from Time Life. Featuring well over a hundred of the most loved and remembered performances from nearly five decades of the CMA Awards telecast, it’s basically a compact history of the past 50 years of popular country music, ranging from trailblazers like Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Loretta Lynn and Earl Scruggs to present-day hitmakers such as Taylor Swift, Chris Stapleton and Little Big Town.
And of course, Georgia is well represented, with performances by Alan Jackson, Trisha Yearwood, Sugarland, Zac Brown Band, Bill Anderson, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Sam Hunt and Florida Georgia Line all making the cut. Of particular note are the premiere performance of Jackson’s post-9/11 song “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)” and his tender version of “He Stopped Loving Her Today” with George Strait following George Jones’ death in 2013.
And if that’s not enough, well, there’s a deluxe edition that tacks on an additional eight discs’ worth of live performances filmed onstage at the Grand Ole Opry.
Meanwhile, the 51st Annual CMA Awards will air Wednesday, Nov. 8th on ABC. Georgia’s Alan Jackson, Luke Bryan and Thomas Rhett are among the scheduled performers that have been announced.
