Kennesaw’s Burnt Hickory Brewery has always had a particularly strong connection to music. Founder Scott Hedeen is a punk rock fan who sold much of his record collection to kickstart his craft brewery, and he currently plays guitar in L.A.-based band The Cheifs. Burnt Hickory has issued numerous beers – many of them limited edition runs – in tribute to Hedeen’s favorite punk, hardcore and metal bands, including Die Kreuzen, Didjits and Atlanta’s own Order of the Owl. But the band who’s gotten the most love from Burnt Hickory is Drivin’ n’ Cryin’.
In 2015, the brewery issued an IPA in honor of DNC’s 30th anniversary, and now, coinciding with Island Records’ expanded reissue of the band’s third album Mystery Road, Burnt Hickory has brewed up a batch of Drivin’ n’ Cryin’ Mystery Road IPA, a 5.5% alcohol dry hopped ale that is available in cans and on draft during tasting tours at the brewery, located at 2260 Moon Station Court in Kennesaw.
