Avery*Sunshine Scores First Chart-Topper with “Call My Name”

After seven months of slowly but steadily climbing up Billboard’s Adult R&B Songs chart, “Call My Name,” the single by Avery*Sunshine, clinched the top spot the week before Christmas. The song is the first release from The SunRoom, the sophomore album from the Atlanta-based singer, songwriter and pianist.

The Pennsylvania native whose given name is Denise Nicole White graduated from Spelman in 1998 before spending over a decade honing her craft performing gospel in area churches and R&B in local clubs. With the assistance of her musical partner, the classical guitarist, producer and Morehouse alum Dana Johnson, Avery*Sunshine released her self-titled debut in 2010 to critical acclaim and accolades for its uplifting, “feel good” sound. Though she has toured relentlessly for the past four years, “Sunshine” also finds time to serve as choral director at Atlanta’s historic Ebenezer Baptist Church.
