Atlanta-based psychedelic experimenters Hello Ocho will self-release their second album, In Portuguese, on April 1st. Preorders are available now on the band’s website, hello-ocho.com, with vinyl preorders coming with a free download of an improvised studio EP called The Slippery Hand.
While the group’s self-titled debut in 2013 featured a trio of Chris Yonker (vocals, guitar), John Gregg (drums) and Clinton Callahan (bass) performing to backing tracks created on the computer, In Portuguese finds them in a significantly more organic frame of mind. No longer reliant on computers and backing tracks, that core trio has expanded to include Chris Childs (vibraphone/percussion) and Christian Shepherd (synthesizers, vocals), with Peter Webb also contributing Rhodes piano to the new album.
An extended run of East Coat and Midwest tour dates is on tap, beginning with a hometown show at downtown Atlanta’s Mammal Gallery (a two-level performance/art space run by Yonker and Shepherd) and including a performance in Athens at the Go Bar on May 7th.
