Atlanta Jazz Festival Announces International Jazz Day Concert

The Atlanta Jazz Festival will commemorate this year’s International Jazz Day with a concert at Chastain Park Amphitheatre on Sunday, April 30th, featuring performances from artists from South America, South Africa and Japan.

The concert will be headlined by The Jazz Epistles, featuring South African legends Hugh Masekela and Abdullah Ibrahim. Argentinian vocalist, songwriter and producer Sofia Rei will also perform, and the night will open with a set by Japanese recording artist Senri Oe.

International Jazz Day – officially designated April 30th by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in 2011 – highlights jazz and its role of uniting people across the globe. The Atlanta event is part of the AJF’s 40 Days of Jazz, as the festival celebrates its 40th year with performances and other events throughout the city, all leading up to the free festival on Memorial Day weekend in Piedmont Park. This year’s Piedmont Park performers have yet to be announced.
