Atlanta-based indie pop project Ayo River will release its debut album, Failed State, on August 25th. The album was recorded over the span of two years at Athens’ Chase Park Transduction Studios, with producer/engineer Matt Martin also playing drums and bass guitar on many of the tracks.
Ayo River is the name used by songwriter Weston Taylor. Influenced by the hip-hop scene in Atlanta, Taylor initially tried his luck at rapping while a college student in Athens. While Failed State’s song “White Dress” is an ode to Atlanta hip-hop, Taylor now works in an indie-pop musical mode, which has been compared to Death Cab for Cutie. Members of his live band – Josh Crusa (bass) and Evan Seeds (drums) – also play on the album.
