The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will open its 2015-16 season on Sept. 17th at 8 p.m. with a performance of Mahler’s “Resurrection,” featuring the ASO and Chorus conducted by Robert Spano. There will be an additional performance on Sept. 19th at 8 p.m. Tickets for opening weekend are on sale now, while single tickets for the 2015-16 season will go on sale August 20th. Meanwhile, The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus (shown) is holding upcoming auditions for the 2015-16 season. Requisites for auditioning for the ASO Chorus include previous choral experience, music reading ability and availability to meet the schedule. (rehearsals are held on Monday evenings 7:30-10 p.m., with nightly rehearsals during choral performance weeks; all members of the chorus volunteer their service.) Auditions for the ASO Chorus are by appointment only; more information can be found at asochorus.org.
The Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra is also conducting auditions. The ASYO is an elite youth ensemble that provides Atlanta’s most talented and dedicated students an outlet to perform orchestral masterworks. Each year, more than 300 instrumentalists audition for one of the 120 seats. Interested applicants must be rising eighth-to-twelfth grade students in good standing with their school’s music program. Applications are available at www.aso.org/asyoapplication, and all applications must be submitted online or postmarked by Thursday, Aug. 13th.
