37th Annual Savannah Jazz Festival

In a longstanding tradition, Savannah Jazz Festival presents a slate of free events over the week of Sept. 23-29 in venues through the city. Highlights include the Teddy Adams’ All Star Jam Session, featuring Adams, the legendary local trombonist, music teacher and Air Force veteran; a showing of Clint Eastwood’s 2009 documentary, Johnny Mercer: The Dream’s On Me;about the Savannah native known as one of America’s greatest lyricists;a night of fiery blues featuring the Eric Culberson Band, Christone Kingfish Ingram and Eric Gales; a performance by Bernie Williams, the Latin Grammy-nominated jazz musician and former New York Yankee; groundbreaking Canadian musician Jane Bunnett and Maqueque, an all-female ensemble a closing performance “Chuck Gets Big” featuring celebrated Georgia keyboardist and member of the Rolling Stones Chuck Leavell with the Savannah Jazz Orchestra.  Open jam sessions will be held on Thursday night at Rancho Alegre restaurant and on Friday and Saturday at De Soto Hotel Ballroom. The Savannah Jazz Festival is organized by the Coastal Jazz Association.
