The art and influence of African dance will be the focus of the upcoming 2015 National Black Arts Festival, which begins its three-month season on July 11th. And since dancing naturally flows from the rhythms of music, expect to be filled with plenty of varied sounds including gospel, funk and hip-hop throughout the event, which is in its 27th season of presenting art and artists of African descent at numerous Atlanta venues and locations.
Highlights of this year’s lineup include Washington, DC-based ensemble Step Africa! (pictured), the Malpaso Dance Company, tap dancer Savion Glover, the Ronald K Brown/Evidence Dance Company and more. In addition to the concerts and performances, there will be film screenings, art gallery exhibitions, a poetry slam, dance classes and artist conversations.
